Equipment failure rate measures how frequently a defined group of assets experiences failures during a particular period. Hotels might calculate failures per 100 installed units, per room, or across another standardized denominator appropriate to the equipment.

Using a rate rather than a raw failure count makes comparisons more meaningful when quantities differ.

Tracking failure rates by equipment age or model can also reveal when reliability begins to decline across an installed asset population.
